Lake Mitigwaki and the surrounding wilderness of the Ottawa National Forest define this landscape near the borders of Iron, Gogebic, and Ontonagon counties. The terrain is a complex network of glacial kettle lakes and drainages, including the Paint Wild and Scenic River and the Jumbo River to the north. These waterways provided the fundamental structure for early 20th-century timber operations, leaving behind a legacy of forest service roads and tracks like Robinson Lake Rd and Lake Mitigwaki Rd.
