Montana's northern border country is the focus of this topographic study, reaching to the very edge of the Canada / United States of America international boundary. Situated in the wide, drainage-cut plains of Hill Co, the landscape is defined by a complex network of seasonal watercourses and coulees. These intermittent streams flow southward through the prairie, illustrating the natural watershed patterns of the High Plains before they join larger systems. The lack of named interior settlements highlights the expansive, open nature of this agricultural and ranching region in the early 21st century, where the land is primarily organized by the Public Land Survey System and local section lines.
