Lake Whatcom dominates this landscape, its deep waters reaching into South Bay and surrounding the small Reveille Island. On the western shore, the residential development of Sudden Valley sits near the Floathaven Airstrip, while the eastern side remains defined by the steep slopes of Lookout Mtn and Anderson Mtn. Further south, the map captures a cluster of smaller water bodies including Cain Lake, Reed Lake, and Palmer Lake near the border of Whatcom and Skagit counties.

Transportation and recreation routes weave through the timbered hills, from the lakeside Hertz Trail to the long-distance Pacific NW National Scenic Trail. The settlement of Blue Canyon is situated on the northeastern shore of the bay, connected by Blue Canyon Rd. The southern portion of the quadrangle shows the path of Pacific Hwy and the Old Hwy 99 N Rd as they pass near the drainage of Friday Creek.
