The Coeur d'Alene National Forest defines the character of this Idaho backcountry, where the Shoshone and Kootenai county lines meet. The terrain is marked by a complex network of high ridges and deep drainages within the Coeur d'Alene Mountains, including prominent heights such as Hamilton Mtn, Lamb Peak, and McDonald Peak. A remote airstrip, Magee Airport, provides a landing point in the upper reaches of the Tepee Creek drainage, near the open grounds of Big Meadows.
