The city of Lamesa anchors the southern edge of this West Texas landscape, where the street grid begins to give way to the vast, structured agricultural plots of Dawson County. North of the city center, the small community of Arvana sits along the highway, surrounded by the distinctive ephemeral playa lakes and drainage patterns of the Llano Estacado. The terrain is marked by the winding path of Sulphur Springs Draw, which cuts through the plains southwest of the main settlement.
