About this map

Landersville and the Moulton Valley anchor this Lawrence County landscape, where the northern agricultural plains give way to the protected woodlands of the William B. Bankhead National Forest. This transition is clearly defined by the Tennessee Valley Divide, a geological boundary separating the northern drainage of Town Creek and Rutherford Creek from the deep southern canyons of the Sipsey Wilderness. Within the forest, the Sipsey Fork of the West Fork Wild and Scenic River carves through complex terrain marked by Flannagin Canyon and Goat Bluff. Historically, the area is punctuated by family-named landmarks and cemeteries, such as the Wear Cem and Bowling Cem near Needmore, and the Owen Chapel near Youngtown, reflecting a long-established rural community settled along the old road networks of Old AL Hwy 24.
