1985 Map of Lanesville

USGS Topo · Published 1993

About this map

Lanesville occupies the upper reaches of this Indiana landscape, where Little Indian Creek and its tributaries carve a complex series of ridges including Schoolhouse Ridge and Gunn Ridge. The area is densely marked with family and community legacy, evidenced by numerous burial grounds such as Shoemaker Cem and Tabler Cem. Further south, the terrain descends toward the Ohio River, where the settlement of Bridgeport and the Locust Point landing mark the riverine border. Across the water in Kentucky, the community of Greenwood and the industrial infrastructure of a Powerplant and Settling Pond reflect the mid-century development of the river valley. The map documents a transition from the upland agricultural and parish life centered around St Marys Sch and Bethesda Ch to the rail-connected river corridor serviced by the CSX line.
