The Chattahoochee River forms the central spine of this landscape, marking the historic boundary between Alabama and Georgia. Along its western banks, the consolidated city of Valley encompasses several distinct textile mill-town communities including Langdale, Fairfax, Shawmut, and River View. These settlements are densely packed with residential grids and numerous local burial grounds such as Fairfax Cem and Oak Wood Cem, reflecting the area's deep industrial and genealogical roots.

Further north, Lanett serves as a gateway near the West Point border, while the terrain to the south becomes increasingly defined by the river's winding path past Magnolia Island and Hills Island. The southern edge of the survey transitions into the waters of Bartletts Ferry Lake, where the topography shifts from the managed industrial corridors of the mill towns toward a more varied riverine environment near Osanippa and McGinty.
