The Missouri Wild and Scenic River carves through the northeastern corner of this landscape, its path defined by the protected acreage of the Upper Missouri River Breaks National Monument. This area of Chouteau County is characterized by high plateaus like Last Chance Bench and Canavan Bench, separated by a complex network of erosional features. The terrain is deeply incised by numerous coulees, including Antelope Coulee, Tom Dale Coulee, and Sheep Shed Coulee, which channel seasonal runoff toward the larger Flat Creek drainage.
