This provisional survey, based on 1983 aerial photography, reveals a wilderness largely defined by its intricate drainage systems and steep canyon walls. Lewis Creek and Hyalite Fork carve through the center of the sheet, while notable topographic features like Horseshoe Basin and the high Cooper Bench break the steep terrain.

Evidence of remote human presence is centered at the Forest Service Station located near the confluence of Big Creek. Navigation through the area relies on a series of marked Pack Trails, which provided the primary access for forest management and back-country travel in the late twentieth century. Natural water sources such as Sunny Brook Spring and Big Spring serve as critical landmarks within the dense network of tributaries including Swan Creek and Stoughton Creek.
