Lillamay and Gravelotte sit along the high northern banks of the Cumberland River, positioned between the river's winding course and the rising hills of Cheatham County. This landscape is defined by the dramatic hydrology of middle Tennessee, where the Harpeth River forms the tight oxbow of Horseshoe Bend and the sharp ridge known as The Narrows. These landforms created naturally defensible and resource-rich sites, evidenced by the archaeological significance of Mound Bottom along the lower loop of the Harpeth.
