The Misquah Hills and the surrounding wilderness of the Superior National Forest define this corner of the Arrowhead region. This landscape is characterized by a dense network of glacial lakes and high points like Lima Mtn and Brule Mtn. Waterways including the South Brule River and Fiddle Cr connect numerous bodies of water such as Bower Trout Lake, Vista Lake, and Misquah Lake. Transportation through this timbered backcountry is limited to forest routes and primitive paths, such as The Grade, the Expressway Route Trl, and the Little Trout-Misquah Trl. Industrial activity is sparse, marked primarily by the presence of the Fiddle Lake Pit (State) and Pit Lake near the southern boundary, reflecting the region's history of resource extraction and forest management.
