The Grande Ronde River and its upper tributaries carve through this high-elevation section of the Whitman National Forest in northeastern Oregon. This 2014 survey captures a landscape defined by significant drainage systems, including Limber Jim Creek and the East Fork Grande Ronde River. The terrain is marked by distinct meadows and high points such as Limber Jim Meadow and Limber Jim Ridge, which transition into deep draws like Deadwood Gulch and Tanner Gulch. This area serves as a critical watershed, evidenced by the cluster of the Rainbow Reservoirs and several alpine-style water bodies such as Erickson Lake. Small clearings like Round Meadow provide natural breaks in the forested slopes of Union County, while a network of forest development roads, including Nat For Dev Rd 4305 and Ladd Canyon Rd, provides access across the rugged interior.
