Central Peak and the high ridges of the Snake Range dominate the western portion of this quadrangle, falling away sharply into the expansive Snake Valley to the east. The landscape is defined by its dramatic elevation changes, where deep incisions like Red Canyon, Horse Canyon, and Little Horse Canyon cut through the mountains toward the valley floor. Much of the high ground is protected within the Humboldt National Forest, a terrain navigated by the Smith Creek Trl and Horse Canyon Trl. Along the eastern margin, the border between White Pine County, Nevada, and Millard County, Utah, runs straight through the valley. This 2021 survey shows a sparsely populated region where life and travel are dictated by the presence of water at Smith Creek and Hampton Cr, and by the primitive road network including Gandy Rd and Horse Canyon Road.
