These interior waters, including the sprawling Massawepie Lake, Lake Marian, and Center Pond, feed into essential waterways like the S Br Grass River and Sucker Brook.

The presence of State Rte 421 near the settlement of Horseshoe provides one of the few vehicular access points into this dense preserve. Researchers will find a terrain shaped by its natural barriers, where features such as Hardwood Island and Burnt Rock interrupt the flow of the Grass River Flow. This survey documents a pristine section of the North Country where the geography remains dominated by peaks like Berkley Mtn and the winding course of the Brandy Brook.
