The Salmon River carves a deep canyon through this part of Idaho County, creating a series of river bars that have historically served as points of settlement and industry. Near the river's bend, the small community of Lucile sits at the base of Sheep Gulch, surrounded by several family-named properties including those of Bob Sewell and George Gill. This 2011 survey documents the persistent human presence along the canyon floor, where ranching and mining have left a visible mark on the terrain.
