About this map

Huron National Forest dominates this section of the northern Michigan landscape during the early 1970s, characterized by its network of forest roads and scattered glacial lakes. The central feature, Mack Lake, is supported by a designated Campground and the Mack Lake Lookout Tower, signifying the area's role in both fire management and recreation. Further south, near the Oscoda and Ogemaw county line, a concentration of water bodies including Trout Lake, Long Lost Lake, and Lost Lake indicates the undulating terrain of the High Plains. Evidence of former industrial activity is visible via the Old RR Grade cutting through the southwestern portion of the quadrangle, while local infrastructure is represented by a Gravel Pit and two lookout towers. The township divisions of Mentor and Goodar organize the sparsely settled territory, which is connected by routes such as Curtisville Road and Mack Lake Road.
