The Petit Jean River cuts through the southern landscape of this Logan County quadrangle, defining a valley bordered by the rising elevations of Potts Ridge and The Narrows. Centered on the town of Magazine, the area reflects a deeply rooted rural settlement pattern where local history is preserved in numerous family and community burial grounds such as Old Union - Cumberland Cem and Ellington Cem. To the north, the terrain becomes more varied as it enters the Ozark National Forest, crossing the high points of Backbone Mtn and Brushy Mtn.
