About this map

St. Joe National Forest and Clearwater National Forest meet along a sharp divide that defines the border between Shoshone and Clearwater counties. This high-elevation terrain is characterized by a dense network of mountain peaks and glacial cirque lakes, including Hero Lake, Gnat Lake, and Larkins Lake. The landscape is oriented around significant ridges such as Surveyors Ridge and Goat Ridge, which serve as natural barriers between the drainage basins of Sawtooth Creek and Martin Creek.
