Umtanum Ridge dominates the southern landscape of this region on the border of Kittitas and Yakima counties. The terrain is defined by a dense network of canyons, including North Riggs Canyon and South Riggs Canyon, which feed into the drainage basins of Manastash Cr and Umtanum Cr. These watercourses have carved deep paths through the high country, creating a complex series of ridges and draws that historically shaped travel and land use in this part of Washington.
