Maricopa sits at the southwestern edge of the San Joaquin Valley, where the flat plains give way to the rising elevations of the Temblor Range and the San Emigdio Mountains. This landscape is defined by the proximity of the San Andreas Fault, which cuts through the southwestern corner of the sheet near the Elkhorn Hills. The geography here transitions from the industrial activity of the southern oil fields to the high desert of the Elkhorn Plain and Beam Flat.
