Westport Slough and Uncle Tom Slough define the northern lowlands of this landscape, where the settlements of Kerry, Woodson, and Marshland sit along the corridor of Old US Hwy 30. The terrain rises sharply to the south into the timbered heights of Skunk Cabbage Ridge and Tunnel Mtn, eventually dropping into the Nehalem Valley. This transition from the tidal influence of the Columbia River basin to the headwaters of the Nehalem River illustrates the complex drainage patterns of the Coast Range.
