Millspaugh sits at the heart of this high-elevation desert landscape, where the northern reaches of the Mojave Desert meet the sharp topography of the Argus Range. The terrain is defined by dramatic peaks and canyons, notably Maturango Peak and Parkinson Peak in the northwest, which overlook the descent into the Panamint Valley to the east. Several significant drainage systems carve through the rock, including Bendire Canyon, Shepherd Canyon, and Knight Canyon. To the southwest, the relatively level expanse of Etcharren Valley contrasts with the steep ridges of Parrot Point. This 2018 survey captures a remote and arid region of Inyo County, documenting the essential geographic landmarks and public land survey boundaries that organize this part of the California desert.
