Petersburg sits at the southern edge of this West Virginia study, where the South Branch Potomac River flows through the valley near Ft Hill. The landscape is defined by the sharp ridges of New Creek Mtn and Knobly Mountain, creating natural corridors like Kline Gap and Mays Gap that have long dictated movement through Grant County. These gaps connect small communities and homesteads such as Maysville and Streby to the larger river valley.
