The Arkansas River carves a deep path through the canyon in the northern portion of this quadrangle, flanked by the Denver and Rio Grande Western railroad. This industrial corridor is anchored by the Parkdale Siding and nearby gravel pits, illustrating the importance of rail transport to the local extractive economy. Further south, the landscape rises into the Mc Intyre Hills and Poverty Mountain, where the terrain is dominated by a complex network of drainages including Copper Gulch and Bootlegger Gulch.
