2002 Map of McAlester Mountain

About this map

Fireweed Camp (NPS) and the high-elevation terrain of the North Cascades anchor this survey of the boundary between Chelan and Okanogan counties. In the early 2000s, this region was defined by the overlapping protections of North Cascades National Park, the Lake Chelan-Sawtooth Wilderness, and the Lake Chelan National Recreation Area. The map details a landscape of glacial features and technical trails, from the Lyall Glacier in the northwest to the Rainbow Creek Trail winding through the south. Numerous high-country basins hold remote water bodies like McAlester Lake, Rainy Lake, and Rainbow Lake. Significant mountaineering landmarks and transit points are documented, including Stiletto Peak, McAlester Pass, and the Twisp Pass which connects the East Fork Twisp River drainage with the interior of the park.
