McGee Peak rises as a central landmark within this high-elevation wilderness along the border of Idaho and Montana. The landscape is defined by the sharp divide between the Lolo National Forest and the St Joe National Forest, a region characterized by a network of drainage systems including the Middle Fork Big Creek and East Fork Big Creek. This 2014 survey documents a remote backcountry terrain where glacial cirques have formed alpine water bodies such as Crystal Lake, Heart Lake, and Rudie Lake. The map reveals the intricate natural topography that separates Shoshone County, Idaho, from Mineral County, Montana, tracing the high ridges from Craddock Peak toward the south. A handful of Forest Service routes, such as Big Creek Road and Deer Creek Road, provide the only mechanized access into this heavily timbered interior, which remains largely untouched by permanent settlement.
