Lake Ouachita dominates the northern landscape of this Montgomery County quadrangle, where the shoreline is deeply indented by drainages like Arnold Creek and Irons Creek. The settlement of Joplin serves as a central point for the local road network, situated just south of the water and north of the prominent ridge lines of Broken Rock Mountain and Hickorynut Mountain.

Genealogists will find several burial sites preserved across the terrain, including Little Fir Cem, Joplin Cem, and Murphy Cem. The southern half of the map is defined by a series of parallel ridges, including Bashaw Mountain and McGraw Mountain, while the east features the specialized landscape of Camp Clear Fork Reservoir.
