The Carson River flows through a landscape of high desert peaks and industrial heritage at the boundary of Carson City and Douglas County. This 1968 survey, with later revisions, documents a period when the Nevada State Medium Security Prison stood just south of Prison Hill, while the McTarnahan Bridge (Site) noted a vanished crossing along the riverbank. The terrain transitions from the floor of the Carson Valley toward the heights of McTarnahan Hill and Hot Springs Mountain.
