The North Slope landscape in this part of the Meade River region is a complex system of arctic wetlands and thermokarst lakes. Mapped in 2020 using data from the U.S. Department of the Interior and the U.S. Geological Survey, the terrain is defined by its extensive hydrography, where countless small water bodies are interspersed with low-lying tundra. The Public Land Survey System grid, including divisions such as T14n R20w and T15n R20w, provides the primary framework for locating features in this remote area. The map illustrates the characteristic patterns of permafrost-affected soils, where the drainage network and lake shapes reflect the delicate environmental balance of northern Alaska. It serves as a high-resolution record of the hydrological state of the region during the early 21st century.
