McCall and the northwestern shores of Payette Lake serve as the focal point for this landscape where the high mountain terrain meets the southern end of the Meadows Valley. The topography is defined by significant elevation changes, from the flats of Meadows Valley and Meadows Hill to the high ridges of the Payette National Forest. This 2013 survey illustrates the local transition from the ranching and timber roots of Meadows to the modern recreation economy centered around the Payette Lakes Ski Area and Bear Basin.
