Sand Arroyo and North Fork Mustang Creek define the arid drainage patterns of this high plains region where the boundaries of Lincoln, Crowley, and Kiowa counties converge. The landscape is characterized by intermittent water sources and small catchments, such as Roundtree Lake and Blakeman Lake, which are essential features in this livestock-grazing country. Near the northern edge of the survey, the Metz Springs provide a localized water point amidst the gradual elevation changes of the Black Hills. A sparse network of section-line roads, including Co RD 27 and Co RD D, facilitates travel across the township and range divisions. The presence of Wild Horse Point suggests the topographical relief that breaks the horizon in an area largely dedicated to open range and agricultural utility.
