The Cimarron National Grassland dominates the eastern half of this landscape, marking the transition from the high plains of Colorado into the grasslands of Kansas. The boundary between Baca County and Morton County is clearly delineated, following the state line where rural roads like R Blvd and L Blvd provide access to a series of designated grazing areas. These specific management zones, such as Pasture Number Seventeen and CNG Pasture Number Six, reflect the structured ranching and conservation practices of the CNG. The northern portion of the quadrangle is defined by the course of the N Fork Cimarron River, which cuts through the terrain north of Co RD T. This area remains largely undeveloped, characterized by a sparse grid of section roads like Co RD 53 that serve the remote shortgrass prairie environment.
