Fort Huachuca Military Reservation occupies the northern reaches of this map, transitioning into the steep canyons of the Coronado National Forest. This 1958 survey, updated in the late 1970s, captures a high-altitude landscape defined by mid-century resource extraction and ranching. A legacy of mining is visible through numerous workings, including the Reef Mine and its associated tramway, as well as the Hamburg Mine and Wakefield Mine. Several family ranches like Barchas Ranch and Carr Canyon Ranch dot the lower elevations, while higher peaks such as Miller Peak and Pat Scott Peak dominate the skyline. The presence of numerous tunnels and a lookout at the summit of Miller Peak reflects the diverse uses of these mountains, from mineral prospecting to forest fire observation during the post-war era.
