Milliken and its surrounding agricultural corridor are defined by a complex network of irrigation infrastructure and river systems in this 2013 study. The confluence of the Big Thompson River and the S Platte River serves as the hydrological anchor for the region, feeding an intricate system of waterways including the Thompson and Platte Ditch, Union Ditch, and Western Mutual Ditch. These canals supported the growth of clustered settlements like Gilcrest, Platteville, and Peckham along the Us-85 corridor.
