Millinocket Lake and Little Millinocket Lake dominate this portion of the North Maine Woods, connected by the narrow channel of The Thorofare. The landscape is defined by its complex hydrology and glacial landforms, with numerous smaller bodies of water like Atkins Pond and Jack Pond scattered between prominent elevations. Higher ground is found at Millinocket Ridge, Caribou Ridge, and South Ridge, which guide the flow of various tributaries including Caribou Brook and Chandler Brook.
