The high plains of Custer County are defined by a complex drainage system shown in this U.S. Geological Survey map. The landscape is carved by numerous watercourses, including Forty Cr, Hercules Cr, and Monarch Cr, which flow through the northern reaches of the quadrangle. In the south, Elmhurst Cr and Dead Horse Cr dominate the drainage pattern, eventually leading toward Mills Cr.
