The Green River carves a deep path through this portion of Grand County, forming the dramatic bend of Labyrinth Canyon. Along the river’s edge, several flat areas known as bottoms provide rare accessible terrain amidst the surrounding verticality, including Cottonwood Bottom, Mineral Bottom, and Tidwell Bottom. These locations historically served as vital access points for river travelers and prospectors entering the high desert plateaus.
