The Pigeon River forms a natural international border between the United States and Canada at the northern edge of this Cook County survey. The landscape is defined by its transition from the high elevations of Mount Sophie and Mount Maud down to the rocky shoreline of Lake Superior. Interior access is provided by a network of historic paths and forest roads, including the Grand Portage Trl and Mt Maude Trl, which navigate the dense timber of the Superior National Forest.
