The delta of the North Santee River and South Santee River forms a complex maze of low-lying islands and tidal channels at the border of Georgetown and Charleston counties. This coastal landscape is dominated by the Francis Marion National Forest to the southwest and the historic grounds of the Kinloch Plantation in the north. The area is intersected by several important maritime arteries, including the Intracoastal Waterway and the Estherville Minim Creek Canal.
