Mining operations and remote desert springs define the high-elevation landscape of the Silver Peak Range in Esmeralda County. During the late 1980s, this area remained an active corridor for geological exploration, evidenced by the concentration of named claims including the Mohawk Mine, Sanger Mine, and the notable Sixteen-To-One Mine. These sites are linked by a network of unimproved roads and 4WD tracks that navigate the steep slopes surrounding Sheep Mountain.
