Mother Lode Mountain and the surrounding high country of the Cascades dominate this 2014 survey of the borderlands between Mount Hood National Forest and Willamette National Forest. The landscape is defined by its drainage systems, where Mother Lode Cr and Elk Lake Cr carve through complex topography toward the Breitenbush River. Higher elevations are marked by prominent summits like Gold Butte and Janus Butte, while smaller water bodies such as Twin Lakes, Dunlap Lake, and Leone Lake are tucked into the drainages.
