Motoqua sits at the edge of the Mormon Range in this desert landscape of southwest Utah. The area is defined by its vital water sources in a dry environment, including Red Hollow Reservoir and several family-named springs such as Bentley Spring and Jackson Spring. These points of water, along with Beaver Dam Wash, illustrate the fundamental infrastructure required for ranching or settlement in Washington County's arid western reaches.

Mountainous terrain dominates the view, from the heights of Potters Peak and Square Top Mtn to the southern extent of the Bull Valley Mountains. Portions of the Doc's Pass Wilderness are preserved here, protecting the high desert character where the Mojave Desert influences the landscape.
