Mount Ellis rises as a central landmark in this high-elevation landscape south of the Gallatin Valley. The geography is defined by a complex network of drainages and peaks, with Mystic Lake and the Mystic Lake Dam anchoring the southeastern portion of the quadrangle. Several gulches, including New World Gulch and Shoefelt Gulch, carve through the mountainous terrain between Francham Mountain and Chestnut Mountain.
