Mt Escalante dominates the landscape of western Iron County, where the high desert meets the protected reaches of the Dixie National Forest. This modern 2023 survey by the U.S. Geological Survey documents a region defined by its complex drainage systems and volcanic landforms, such as Haystack Mtn and the prominent Sevy Bench. These elevated features are carved by a series of named canyons and washes, including Telegraph Draw, Horse Canyon, and Sevy Hollow, which channel water across the arid terrain.
