The Flathead National Forest dominates this section of the Flathead Range, where high-elevation peaks define the local drainage patterns. Rising over the terrain are Great Northern Mtn and Mt Grant, marking a sharp vertical landscape that feeds into the Hungry Horse Reservoir. This massive body of water, including features like Riverside Bay and Kelly Island, transformed the valley after the mid-century damming of the South Fork Flathead River. Access to this wilderness is primarily dictated by the E Side Rd and the Highline Loop Rd, which trace the contours of the reservoir and the northern slopes. Numerous named drainages such as Turmoil Cr and Stanton Cr carve through the mountains, illustrating the complex network of mountain streams that sustain the reservoir's water levels.
