The Middle Fork Chistochina River dominates this interior Alaskan landscape, carving a broad, braided gravel bed through the high country. The river serves as a central artery for the region, joined by numerous glacial and mountain tributaries such as Russian John Creek, Ptarmigan Creek, and Limestone Creek. This map documents a wilderness at the boundary of the Southeast Fairbanks and Copper River Census Areas, where the terrain rises sharply away from the valley floors. Smaller drainages like Canyon Creek and Willow Creek define the complex topography of the surrounding ridges. The survey illustrates the pristine hydrology of the Chistochina basin, including the confluence where the East Fork Chistochina River enters from the southeast, a site of significance for its undisturbed natural drainage patterns.
