The North Fork Stillaguamish River corridor serves as the primary valley floor for this portion of the Cascades, where the small settlements of Hazel, Rowan, and Tulker are situated. These communities are tied to the river valley and the transportation routes that follow it, including Whitman Rd and Steelhead Dr. To the north and south, the terrain rises sharply into the Mount Baker National Forest, dominated by the massive profile of Mt Higgins and the neighboring Skadulguas Peak.
