Moose Town sits at the center of this high-elevation landscape within the Deerlodge National Forest, where the topography is defined by the winding Continental Divide. The drainage patterns here are distinct, with the Basin Creek system feeding into the Basin Cr Reservoir and Upper Reservoir in the north, while the southern slopes are dominated by the many branches of Moose Creek. Numerous named gulches like Climax Gulch and China Gulch suggest a history of prospecting and resource extraction typical of the Silver Bow and Madison County borderlands.
