The high-elevation peaks of the La Sal Mountains dominate this 1980s terrain study, which straddles the border of Grand and San Juan counties within the Manti-La Sal National Forest. Centered on the massive profile of Mount Peale, the landscape is defined by steep alpine slopes and narrow drainage basins. Water sources are critical features in this arid environment, ranging from the high-altitude Blue Lake and Dark Canyon Lake to the complex network of headwaters for Geyser Creek, Twomile Creek, and Beaver Creek.
